Education
Homelessness affects us all! At Homeless Awareness Calgary Committee (HACC) we believe that by educating fellow Calgarians, we can help create change!
Raising awareness in youth about social issues is an effective educational strategy that has the potential to: foster the development of critical thinking skills, promote engagement in learning, develop school-community partnerships, deconstruct stereotypes and myths, and to act as a preventative measure.
Homeless Awareness Calgary Committee would like to offer you and your group a free presentation on Homelessness and associated social issues in Calgary.
The presentation (which can run from 1 hour to 2 hours depending on your preference) includes:
- Poverty Quiz: an opportunity for your group to challenge their knowledge on poverty and homelessness in Calgary, the province of Alberta as well as Canada as a whole
- Discussion Period: A chance for your group to discuss how do people come to experience homelessness, who is at risk of experiencing homelessness, and some of the challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness
- A Brain Storming Session: Participants are given an opportunity to brainstorm what THEY can do to help people experiencing homelessness and bring this social issue to an end
- Video Presentation: Homeless Awareness Calgary Committee has created a new video (6 minutes long) that challenges stereotypes of who experiences and why they experience homelessness
- Take Home Package: Participants are given a package that they can take away with them. It includes: The Poverty Quiz, and a Newsletter on Homelessness
