Welcome to Homeless Awareness Calgary
In an ideal world...
everyone has a roof overhead, clothes on their back, and food in their stomach. Reality shows us that this is not the case. Calgary Homeless Foundation estimates more than 4,500 Calgarians experience homelessness as of July, 2009. This is the equivalent of having the town of Didsbury living on our city streets.
In a city known as being both prosperous and progressive, it is intolerable for any member of our community to be homeless. Homelessness or the threat of homelessness affects individuals and families from every segment of our population.
Homeless Awareness Calgary Committee (HACC) is a group of Calgarians, supported by dedicated partners, focused on educating our neighbours about the complexities of homelessness in order to inspire our communities to take action.
HACC kicks off its annual campaign with the launch of Homeless Awareness Week the third week in September. The week is filled with events designed to educate Calgarians about the realities surrounding homelessness in our city organized by HACC, other non-profit groups, government agencies and community members.
